Rare and wonderful, 1870’s Orientalist Design, Gutta Percha Vanity Set type Hairbrush with lotus blossom type floral decoration.
This beautiful, molded Gutta Percha / Thermoplastic Hairbrush measures approx. 8” long and 1 3/4” wide at the center of the head. It has an elaborate, molded design on the back featuring a lily pad / lotus blossom type flowering plant. Molded text beneath the natural bristles of the Brush reads “Diatite / Pat. 1868 & March 5, 1872” and “B P”.
This outstanding, 1870’s Gutta Percha Hairbrush is in very good condition. There are two, stable cracks – a horizontal crack that encircles the throat of the handle and a very thin crack in the lower portion of the head - no other chips, cracks, breaks, physical damage or repairs to the Gutta Percha. The surface is well preserved and very attractive. The bristles are also very well preserved
